Every Monday morning at the Dilaab office, the staff meets for a three-hour meeting. We begin by praying the Morning Prayer, then we ask two questions: “What am I most grateful for in the last week?” and “What am I least grateful for in the past week?” Having started the week in a spirit of prayerful gratitude, we experience positive energy only God can give. Then we plan the work for the week and look at the coming month.
We are grateful for so many things in the past 7 weeks.
GOSPEL EXPOSITION
12th Sunday Ordinary B
Restful Sleep
PRELIMINARIES: 15th Sunday Ordinary A: Job 38:1, 8-11; 2 Cor 5:14-17; and Mark 4:35-41
I. WHAT IT MEANT THEN:
- APPROACHING THE WELL: repeatedly reading the passage and pausing for unadorned silence. Staying with a striking word or phrase.
- DRAWING THE WATER: key exegetical points.
- The gospel passage is Mark’s version of the Stilling of the Storm (cf. Matthew 8:18, 23-27 and Luke 8:22-25). We taste Mark’s “flavor” as we compare the three accounts. Before we do this, we note that such nature miracles (as compared to healings or exorcisms) have three sections: the need (vv. 35-38); Jesus’ action (vv. 39-40); and reaction of eyewitnesses (v. 41). Of course, one can perhaps argue that v. 38 is already part of Jesus’ action.
